> Our story

After World War II, Mrs Soulard exercised several professional activities and learnt to knit on a manual machine. In 1946, her passion for knitting led her to register at the French Chamber of Trades and began to knit clothing professionally. At first, she only produced about fifteen sweaters per week intended for the neighbouring shops.

At that time, obtaining wool in bulk quantities and in various colours was difficult. Indeed, the War had induced restrictions and one could only be provided with wool in return for textile coupons. Mrs Soulard worked that way for several years until her son-in-law Robert Morinière became her associate in 1957. Three years later, they hired their first worker.

In order to promote their products and develop their clientele and production, they employed a sales representative.

In 1975, the family-owned company became the public limited company Royal Mer Bretagne and was famous for its nautical sweaters collections.
Then, they bought their first automatic weaving loom, what increased both the adults’ and children’s collections.

With years passing by and the staff and equipment fleet increasing, the premises quickly became too small, thus resulting in the need for more production space. In the 90’s, Robert Morinière handed the company over to two of his children. Today, the company counts about a hundred people, who work with the same thoroughness to provide clients with high quality items.
